Hey Jody, I gotta go w/my old stand-by:

10-29-77, Evans Fieldhouse, DeKalb, Ill.

Opening MIGHT AS WELL sets the tone for the whole show. Garcia clearly having tons o' fun belting out the lyrics...

JACK STRAW a monster...best jam into the "from Witchita" line i've ever heard.

The jams in BERTHA and GOOD LOVIN are monumental...

ESTIMATED gets the wah-wahs waaaaay out...

The EYES is groovy, jazzy, yet filled with roof-blasting riffs by Jerry...my favorite EYES of all time...

ST STEPHEN starts out like a blues number--I kid you not....the jamming is super-tight and hot all the way thru into a great rockin NFA...

BLACK PETER hits all the emotional high notes--Jerry sings it hard and beautifully..."come run and seeeeeeeee!!!!"

the SUGAR MAG is just a beast of rock and roll craziness, evidenced by Mickey and Billy going ballistic just before the SSDD coda...

and those are just a few highlights from my all time favorite show.

it combines all the best things I love about '77: Flowing, confident , tight, yet groovy, crescendos galore...such confidence in the playing, no lyrical flubs, just song after song played to Perfect Bros. perfection AND with high emotional content. Desert island show #1 for me.

Thanks- looks like a smoker! While I have a bunch naturally from 77, the 78 show just caught my ear a bit differently somehow. Hell, Jerry almost starts yodeling- its so fun to hear him at his "peak" in the post Pigpen era. Donna even sounds bearable, backing up and not barking. I'll add your suggestion to the rest of the 77's. Can you really have enough?

I agree 100%! 7/8/78 is no doubt a classic. One of those treasured shows you can put on from the opener (killer Bertha btw) to the very end and it's all awesome. I make sure to give this to friends who have never heard it, and they always give great feedback. One of my fiends HATES Sugar Mags but gave this one a try and enjoyed the hell out of it.

Some of my other favorites that go under the radar are 11/9/79 (one of my favorite 2nd sets ever, and a personal top 3 Jack Straw, I'm a Jack Straw whore for the record). I'll reinforce a previous post of 4/16/78, the band was so in tune that night, and a very unique style of play during that month. 12/28/79, a well-known classic. One of the best sounding recordings period, and an A++ performance. And don't forget 11/6/77, I've played the 1st set hundreds of times. The Mexacali > My Uncle says it all. Another 77 show that has a unique feel are both shows in Portland, OR 10/1 & 10/2/77. They played super loose and make each song sound completely new.

Hope this helps! And bring back the boards for us!!!

Thanks.I think I have 11/6 and have 4/16/78 in the car ready to go. I wish I could bring the boards back, but we are lucky to have had access while we could. It will keep the trading alive which while more time consumming, is not abad thing to reaquaint us like souls.

Never mind about the seed as I am downloading the aud version from this site. If the board is that much better though, I would re-ask that if you can reseed it to bt that would be cool.

I got the aud recording from here but it does not do the show justice. Sounds like I'm at the back of the field house. Will search for the board...
